It's been a dream start to the 2017 LA Poker Classic for local player Albert Shim. Yesterday, Shim finished second in a five way chop, taking home just under $8,000 for his efforts. It was dejavu all over again here today, as Shim was back at the final table for the Triple Stud. He would once again be involved in a chop, but this time, he finished on top, earning $7,975 for his efforts, and his first Remington Trophy.
"I'm just focused right now. Yeah I'm playing good getting lucky in the right spots. It's been good," said Shim after his win.
Shim is a regular in the Mixed Games here in LA, and that experience has helped guide him so far in this series. As soon as he wrapped up the Omaha 8-or-Better, he hopped into the Triple Stud, and according to him, the tournament was smooth throughout.
"Actually I had no problems it was easy sailing throughout really. Stud Hi-Lo is my favorite game."
While Shim spends most of his time in Los Angeles, like players around the country, he always makes some time to go out to Vegas for the Summer fun.
"I try to go out to the World Series for a month every summer and I'll take shots here and there in LA since I live here. That's about it."
These back-to-back impressive results vaults Shim into the early lead in the Player of the Series race, but according to Shim, he isn't going to focus on that too much.
"I'm gonna play a couple more events but I've got alot of stuff going on besides poker so I'll probably play three more events. I'll play the $350 HORSE and the $500 versions of these events."
Every year at the LAPC, we see some sort of run like Shim is on. Will he continue it, or will the next big run be yours? Come down to the LA Poker Classic to find out!
